Privacy Policy
ScanFounder is published by Real Othello Keyan Stalman. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. We try to keep it short and specific. If anything here is unclear, email real.ok@outlook.com.
What we collect
Account data
- Email address — used to identify your account and to contact you about your account. Self-serve password reset is not available in this version; resets are handled by emailing us.
- Display name (optional) — shown in your profile.
- User ID — a UUID we assign at signup and attach to your scans, ratings, and saved cards.
Scan data
- Photos you scan — sent to our vision pipeline for brand identification. Image bytes are processed once and not retained beyond the request.
- Barcodes / typed brand names / voice transcripts — sent to identify the brand. Stored alongside your scan history.
- Scan history + saved cards + ratings — stored so you can review past scans and return to the brands you saved.
Diagnostics
- Product interaction + performance + crash data — sent to PostHog (analytics provider) to improve stability and prioritise features. We do not use this data for advertising or cross-app tracking.
How we use it
- Authenticating you and keeping your account secure.
- Identifying brands from your scans and returning brand cards.
- Showing your scan history, saved cards, and ratings.
- Diagnosing crashes and improving the product.
Who we share it with
- xAI (Grok) — your scan input (image / brand name) is sent to xAI's API to identify the brand and generate the brand card. xAI's privacy policy applies to their handling of that request.
- PostHog — anonymous analytics events and crash data.
- Vercel — our hosting provider; they process requests in transit.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
How long we keep it
Account data and scan history are kept until you delete your account. Image bytes you scan are processed once and not retained. Diagnostics retention follows PostHog's default policy (12 months at time of writing).
Your rights
- Delete your account — Profile → Settings → Delete account. This is an immediate, permanent deletion of your account and all your scans, saved cards and ratings from our database. It cannot be undone.
- Access / export — email real.ok@outlook.com and we'll send you a copy of your account data within 30 days.
Children
ScanFounder is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete the account.
Changes
If we materially change this policy we'll update the effective date at the top and notify you in-app or by email before the change takes effect.
